Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

Seattle Premiere - pick my dress!

The Seattle Premiere of the green makeover show, Mission: Sustainable, is coming up fast and I best get prepared for it. For those of you who live in the area, here are the details. It's open to the public, so please come attend and bring your friends while you're at it!

Date: February 11, 2010
Time: 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM
Location: Seattle Center Fisher Pavilion
Cost: FREE to the public

"Heart-warming," "Hilarious" and "Inspiring" are just a few of the words being used to describe the pilot episode of Mission: Sustainable that follows one Seattle family’s experience as they work with a team of sustainability experts [that would be me - I'm the personal care consultant on the show] to lower their impact on the planet.

Join us for the green carpet event of the season at Seattle Center’s Fisher Pavilion. Come view the 45 minute pilot, mix and mingle with the cast and crew of Mission: Sustainable, enjoy live music with special guest, The Fiasco, and visit the booths of local sustainable companies.

Oh yeah, and there will be free food from a variety of local producers and vendors.

Help pick my dress!

For those of you who can't make it (or can), you can help me out by picking what to wear. Since I rarely hit the red, or green carpet, for that matter, I have nothing to wear. I want to do something formal and may end up renting to reduce ye olde impact.

So, your job is to help me decide what the heck to wear. Here are your choices. Click on the image to see it more biggerer and vote below:

Update: I decided to go with a sustainable dress for the premiere. You can read all about it here!

Oh no, we might not be much help because the voting is rather across the board at the moment.

I think what you where is VERY important... you need to be very careful to make sure you are wearing the most eco-friendly, yet still stylish outfit you can... from your dress to your accessories to your underwear. This is your chance to show the audience and public that you are living up to their expectations off screen. YOU are the style & beauty consultant of the show! Otherwise your 'eco-cred' might be in tatters!

There are something great eco-designers out there, quite mainstream ones, but how about something vintage? Or borrowed, perhaps sentimental (have a professional eco-dye a wedding dress), or reconstruct a celebrity's cast off, then there will be a story to tell! (And perhaps a follow up feature on one of the episodes!)

In terms of style, I can see your tall, lean stature pulling off a one shouldered long dress in a solid colour, with a hint of a groovy design perhaps around the hem and then again on the shoulder strap... wear some minimal accessories, but make sure they are also from an eco-source (vintage, fair trade, recycled, reconstructed etc.)

Be a glamazon, but be understated, and you will steal the show! Have fun!

(Ooh, was that a bit full on? LOL! It's not like I'm any sort of expert! Sorry, I am sure you will look great and have the right impact...)

I picked the dress n°1, but the 3 and 5 also look gorgeous ! The three of them seem so goddess-y, that would be perfect for a green goddess like you ! I know the graphite one got numerous votes, but I really disagree : it seems so urban and a bit bitchy (sorry!)...
Still, you'll be gorgeous anyway. What you wear is important to put you at ease, and show your support to "the cause" (are these dresses eco-friendly ?), but what you wear won't be as important as what you do anyway...

Oh, der, I typed 'where' instead of 'wear'!! But I wanted to agree with Lil... the graphite, slinky one could be OK in the right setting, but I think it is a bit OTT. Sorry, know it is popular choice, but it didn't sit right with me!! (Again, I am no expert!! LOL) OK, enough out of me...

Since you seem to like the one shoulder style (four offered) and beaded (three offered), I would go with the one shoulder beaded. Hey, when it's your style - go with it. I have no doubt you will look beautiful in whatever you wear. Debbie C in Massachusetts

In the spirit of this post, I'd like to offer another poll. This one for me. It's called Pick my Comfortable Shoes. a) Danskos (tres cheffy) b)sneaks (Nikes might set the wrong tone though) c) Tevas with socks (not on my life) or finally d) combat boots (going to need them to be an eco-warrier)

Regarding eco-dresses. I have yet to find any environmentally friendly dresses that are appropriate for evening wear and don't cost less than $300. If anyone has suggestions, please, let me know.

As for vintage. I have honestly spent months looking for something that would work. My problem is that I'm so tall (5'11+") and most vintage clothing is made for someone who is more like 5'6". So, at my size things don't fit across the back. I'd love to do vintage, but I've been unsuccessful so far.

So, hence, possibly trying to rent something instead. Again, with the renting, can't do alterations with my tall frame. Sigh.

Becky - Go with the Danskos. You'll look so hot!

I would VERY seriously- ask the camera operator.

different colors and fabrics come across on video in extremely different ways. Some are really big no-nos, others fade into "what?".

And some look like a million bucks.

Only the camerapeople know. The director knows some- but not as much as they do.

Think 'princess'. :)

That one is made of flax linen, which, although it is probably not organic or anything, is at least renewable and not made from petrochemicals! And, you'd be beautiful in it.

This one is flax, too - with lovely lacing up the back:

I'd go with a rental. It's a green option that doesn't get enough press when in a situation such as this, is perfect. I mean when your show goes national and you become famous, you can't be seen in the same clothes twice. Darling it just isn't DONE! I saw that on AbFab once and if it's on TV you know that it has to be true.

I'd go with 5 or 6. With your light coloring and hair you could totally pull off #6. Go with something that has some color. So them that eco doesn't have to be ugly. or beige. or made of burlap.

I'm emailing this to my former student Kayla who put on a sustainable fashion show at my school. She's studying fashion in college... I, unfortunately, am no help.

Can't thrift store be eco-friendly?

I'm worried about 3 and a little about 5. I know you're tall and thin so maybe you can pull them off. I know on me this style makes me look pregnant. Are you ordering or will you be able to try on?

I think something made out of recycled material in a creative way will definitely bring attention to the eco issue where a rental dress would only be apparent to people you talked to.

Also I love clothing made out of old ties:
