I'd like to try out an online book club via this blog since it's hard to find enough similarly interested folks in the hood. Is that crazy?
If you haven't heard of this book, here's a snippet from a review from the Washington Post:
In The Omnivore's Dilemma, Michael Pollan writes about how our food is grown -- what it is, in fact, that we are eating. The book is really three in one:
The first section discusses industrial farming; the second, organic food, both as big business and on a relatively small farm; and the third, what it is like to hunt and gather food for oneself.
And each section culminates in a meal -- a cheeseburger and fries from McDonald's; roast chicken, vegetables and a salad from Whole Foods; and grilled chicken, corn and a chocolate soufflé (made with fresh eggs) from a sustainable farm; and, finally, mushrooms and pork, foraged from the wild.
If you're interested, post in the comments so I can get an idea if I should run with this. I'd like to give us a month to acquire and start reading it. For each section, I'll be posting questions to ponder and comment on later.
What think ye?

I already started reading it, but I'd like to participate in the discussion.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for your book club posts.
I've read it, but would gladly discuss it (I preach to the converted here so it'd be nice...).
I would love to participate - would you mind if I extend the invite to a few other bloggers?
Extend away! The more the merrier... just have them add to the post so I can keep track :)
I'm glad to have you guys joining in! I'll add a post about it again soon.
I read the book a few months ago and loved it. I'd love to discuss it since almost no one I know IRL has read it.
You have to know how to read to be in the book club, right? So let me do that first, and then count me in!
I haven't read it either, yet, and just ordered it online from Amazon because the paperback version is coming out April 17. I'd be up for a bloggy book club on it for sure.
I'd love to have other folks to talk about it with.
Sounds like a good book, and I've got it on order from the local library. Reduce Reduce!
p~ I'd love to get it from the library too, but since there's such a waitlist on it, I wouldn't be holding the bookclub until 2008.
vanessa - I'm looking on Amazon and it appears that the paperback version doesn't come out until August 2007. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong print version?
Anyway, if you can't find it at the local library and want to Reuse, you can always buy a used copy off of Amazon. But it is more expensive than the new version when you add in shipping (but not if you don't qualify for Free Super Saver Shipping).
Oh, and by the way anne has a nice review of the book on her site. If I recall it covers the first section of the book.
laura - it would help with your reading skills if you removed the tomatoes from your eyes. No, really.
And, laura? Go buy some Ducosol and get on with it already.
came her from QT - I do what she tells me.
I'd love to join in.
Found your blog via El's blog. It's a great book and have read it but I'd love to discuss it. Hmmm...maybe a re-read is on the cards.
CC. I have my copy of the book. I am going to start reading it soon, I am soo ridiculously slow of a reader I need a jump start. I hope noone thought I was being snooty saying to reuse, just reminding everone about the library. It's often my second thought. My first reaction is always to get the book new. Trying to work on that. Looking forward to the discussion on this.
P~
P~ I thought the library was a good suggestion. My knee jerk reaction is always AMAZON! Sometimes I forget I can get something at the library and am always quite excited when I do remember (especially for those books I really don't want to keep in the home "collection").
I'll be posting an update on the book club tomorrow.
I just stumbled onto your blog a few weeks ago and I happen to have the audiobook from the library waiting for me. May I join?
