Western Washington was hit pretty hard by torrential rains over the last 24 hours. The picture on the left is taken of a road within walking distance of my house. We woke up to a flooded basement. I spent all day sucking the water out with a wet vac. Needless to say, I'm exhausted.
But, when all is said and done, I really can't complain. We only had about an inch of water in the basement and as of right now, due to my diligence and fabulous work, it's almost completely dry. Unfortunately, many others had their entire basements flooded with feet of water.

I have the next installment of the Animal, Vegetable, Miracle book club post just about ready to go!Oh yeah, and why couldn't I get this firefighter to drain my basement for me? That's right, he's busy saving lives or something important. Doesn't he know my hands are so dry from all this manual labor that they are cracking and bleeding as I type this post? Priorities, people!

Heard about these storms on the news this evening and thought of you. Glad to hear that 1" of water in your basement and somewhat minor inconveniences are the worst of your family's woes on this one.
Crunch, I was wondering how you were faring up there. It was horrendous here in Salem, but no flooding and no trees down in my neighborhood, thank God. That wind was something though. I used to have a house on the coast and can I just tell you how happy I am that I sold it? Lincoln City still has no power, no phone, nothing. State of Emergency I believe is the term they are using. Wind ripped the back wall right off the casino -- which was the only place in town with power. (go figure)
Anyway, seems the worst is over and I am glad you came through as well as you have. Looking forward to Mr. Crunchy's responses to our questions! What a good sport he is!

Jeepers, Crunchy-D - you're SOOO competitive!! What, just because WE got floods, you have to have floods too??
:-) sure looks like a serious mess, and your own inch in the basement looks minor comparatively. Can still be exhausting, though- you might look into renting/borrowing a small "trash pump". They make them pretty small, as well as big; only problem is they're going to be in serious demand right now.
Hang in there! Again. Don't let it get you exhausted.
