Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

Affluenza book club check-in

Affluenza: The All-Consuming EpidemicI wanted to get an idea of where you all are with the new book for the book club, so I know when to start doing discussion posts.

When I start the discussion posts, I plan on covering about five chapters at a time. So, expect to see five discussion posts total since there are thirty chapters. I don't want this to take five months to read, so I'll be posting every couple of weeks. Let me know if this sounds reasonable to you.

I am giving thought to suggesting this to one of the two book clubs in which I participate. I think both would find it interesting.

I read this book this summer - it completely changed the way I view spending money! I won't be reading it again, but I'll follow the posts - I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did!

I was reading this book over the Christmas holiday, and I had to put it down I was so depressed by it! Once I managed to push pass to about 1/2 way through the book I was OK. Watching the chaos of materialism of Christmas while trying to plow through the book wasn't particularly good timing on my part.

However, I like it so much I plan on seeing if I can pick up a used copy at the local bookstore.

I've "ordered" the book through the inter-library loan system, and I hope it gets here in time! I'm looking forward to reading it and participating in the discussions.

Just started the book tonight - it's a nice, quick read!

I ordered it. It's my last "just for fun" purchase before I quit my job at the end of January, but I think it will be a worthwhile investment. We are scaling way back so that I can take some time off, and I'm sure this will provide lots of inspiration.

Is this book related in anyway to a television documentary of the same name? It's a few years old, but very good. It had a segment about a couple of teenage girls who wrote a play called "Barbie Get Real," a very powerful piece of theatre that deals with what is plastic and what is real.

Anyway, I just ordered the book and will join in the reading with you all.
