Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

Giveaway: Eco-Friendly Families

Eco-Friendly FamiliesJust because the previous giveaway ended last night doesn't mean I'm going to leave you in the lurch. Fear not, frugal friends, today starts a new giveaway, one that would also make a great holiday gift.

Eco-Friendly Families, by Helen Coronato, is a guidebook for learning how to raise your kids in an environmentally friendly manner. This book is suitable for those just starting out trying to green their lives, but it also offers suggestions that are useful for the more seasoned veterans among us.

The author includes a monthly calendar of four things to do or change, loads of projects for kids and different ways to reuse or repurpose items. She also discusses different areas of your home that could stand some improvement, touches on environmental eating choices and wraps it all up with a list of links for finding out more information.

This would make a great gift for new parents or for those who need a little, ahem, nudge in reducing their impact on the Earth.

If you want to be entered in this book giveaway, add your name to the comments of this post. This giveaway is open until Friday, November 21st, 6:00 pm PST. I'll be doing a random drawing and announcing a winner on Saturday, November 22nd.

I'm always trying to find some new tips! Trouble is, it seems we do most of them already, but I still enjoy reading about them...

Aha! This is definitely a book I need! I wouldn't call myself a green newbie, but I'm definitely going about it slowly. :) I need all the motivation I can get.

Hey Crunchy! Looks like a really great book! Actually looks like it might be a good Christmas present for a couple friends of mine.

Unfortunately, the book is likely not useful for me. My husband informed me recently that he has no desire to be 'green'. He doesn't care about the planet. When I asked about what would happen if the children didn't have a planet to live on and he said he didn't care about that. *sigh*

So I guess I will do what I can but it will be with zero support.

I have been trying the freeze your buns off (without telling my husband) but when I discovered that my foot was just about frostbitten after being left out from under the covers, I decided to turn up the heat a few degrees last night. It is still less than last year so there is progress.

Michelle said...

I would love to have ideas and projects to help me along!

Maybe this would help my kids (6) understand why we are recycling, composting and using cloth napkins. And for my older son who can't understand why I want him to do the dishes a certain way. Would love to learn even more ways to reduse our consumption of the planet. Count me in.

Sign me up! We're hoping to be parents soon, so this will be useful. I'd rather learn to do things the right way the first time around and not have to unlearn too many bad habits.

I would sort of, kind of, maybe like to start a family, but have always been concerned about how I could raise said hypothetical child, the eco-friendly (and healthier) way. This book sounds like it would be a perfect resource. Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy, Crunchy Gal!

I love teaching the children in my family how to be sustainable. Because their parents definitely aren't!

I'm new to this stuff... my wife's brought me 'round to it after a couple years of teasing her about her compost bin and water barrel.

Wish I could win this for our friends who are in the midst of adopting a baby overseas. Perhaps, I can find one on half.com.

Billie: So sorry that your husband does not seem to care about the planet. This must be so hard when you obviously love your children and want them to have a living planet. We have lots of non-crunchy relatives who think we are weird. Keep your chin up and keep doing your best. (I understand about "cheating" and turning the heat up as I am struggling with some leg problems that cause my feet to feel cold all the time.)

I would love to have this book! Crunchy- I don't know how you do all of this, with young children. I have been keeping the thermostat down to 60 (day), 58 (night). Can't go much lower, as my newborn gets grouchy when his toes are cold. My preschoolers on the other hand love the excuse to wear footy jammies all day. Thanks for all of the inspiration!
