Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

DivaCup Challenge 2008

DivaCup Challenge 2008It's been almost a year since the first DivaCup Challenge started. I love, love, love my DivaCup and cannot imagine going back to disposables.

To be honest, I was completely abhorred by the idea of this little piece of silicone at first, but once I took the plunge (so to speak) I was immediately enamored. I only hope that other women will try it for themselves. It's been totally life changing. And I don't say that about just anything.

At this time, about 43% of the almost 500 people that answered my latest poll used the DivaCup or the Keeper. The total for reusable menstrual products is 57%. First of all, I must say I am astounded that the percentage is as high as it is. It is probably due to the crunchiness of my readers, but even still. That's wonderful! Consider the savings to the environment, the sewage treatment plants, the landfills and to your bodies!

If I had any influence on the number of DivaCups being used I would be quite pleased, yet I'm not sure if I can take much credit in these numbers. Either way, I hope to increase that number even more if I can.

As such, I'm holding another DivaCup Challenge and giveaway for those who do not want to risk spending the money on something they are not sure about. But I'm not giving away just one DivaCup but five.

What's the catch? Well, to sign up to win a DivaCup you must pledge to use it for 3 months regardless of whether or not you win one. (For those of you participating in the Buy Nothing Challenge, since this replaces a whole bunch of disposable "necessities", it's an acceptable purchase.)

The challenge starts May 2008 to coincide with the Extreme Eco Challenge for those trying to eliminate their usage of paper products. To join the challenge, sign up in the comments. To enter the giveaway, you must have signed up by April 25th.

Cool, Jen! I'm glad you had such as easy time with it!

I'm in! I've been using mine for 8+ months now and would never go back! I started for the environmental benefits but keep with it because of the *ahem* personal benefits (it's much friendlier to my feminine parts than tampons and much cleaner than pads.) I highly recommend the diva cup to everyone -- it handles heavy flow easily and I've never once had a leak.

OK - I got one and I'm using it now. Started my cycle last night. So far, so good - even went for a bike ride to rescue 10# of apricots 1.6 miles away...

I'm ready to take four unopened boxes of tampons back to WF for a cash refund!!

Hi,
I have to post as anonymous since I have a little policy about never discussing or posting photos about certain aspects of my life on the Internet. But, have to say, it works, is easy, didn't take a big learning curve, and is not gross, comparatively. And I did try it because of you.

Just thought I would let you know that you converted one other person to use one as well. I think it is great. I have had it close to a year now.

I had heard about teh Diva Cup while I was pregnant and forgot about it until your challenge. I bought one and finally tried it. I love it and am going to reccommend it to every girl I know, green or not, it's just easier! I couldn't believe that it didn't even leak a little like tampons do. Thanks for the challenge, I'm never going back.

OMG. I just got mine in the mail yesterday and got my period this morning. I have to say that I originally got one to try to be a little more green (also switching to CD for the little one), but I'm loving the convenience and comfort. I'm too late for the challenge, but I'm definitely using mine for the next 3 months (and longer) for sure). It took just a little longer to get right than a tampon, but so much more comfortable.

I forgot to report - this thing worked great! I'm ready to take back all unopened boxes of tampons to Whole Foods for a refund, and want to buy these for every natural born menstruating female I know.

Seriously, this was awesome. Even the boyfriend was interested in how it worked (though blood makes him queasy).

It also shortened my period to 2 days from 3 (which is not as enviable as it sounds since I have a 19-21 day cycle).

First time user today. Heavy flow and I'm good! Took just a little getting used to... like all of the first change and I'm convinced.

I think I'm glad I've gone through the change. Is there anything new for that that's green?

So who won your challenge?

I just wanted to let you know that it was through your blog that I found out about the Diva Cup (I think it was April of this year)...I went out and got one, and LOVELOVELOVE it. Cannot imagine going back to disposables. Thank you for your great blog!

I just wanted to pass the word along that DivaCup has discontinued its 1 year satisfaction guarantee.(I think RuralAspirations had mentioned it earlier).
Kind of a bummer for folks who are a little hesitant to try...I totally think its worth the risk, I heart my DivaCup!!

I read through all of this about the Diva Cup several weeks ago. I'm just not quite sold that it would work for me. It's an interesting concept though.

I came back in here today to let you know that I just noticed an ad for this product on http://www.bamboofabricstore.com/ and it immediately reminded me of your advocacy for it! :)

I really enjoy your blogs and sense of humor. Great stuff!

I just bought a diva cup and love it. I thought it'd be hard to place, but it really isn't and I've had no leaks. Honestly, I didn't think it'd work well, but it does. So, I'll never use disposables again.

If you wanted to just buy one, iherb.com has them for $18.99, and you can use JOR526 as a $5 off coupon code.
The shipping is $2.00, so... that is an amazing deal.
I just ordered mine!
I'm so excited for my next menstrual cycle!
