Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

Low Impact Week Contest

Low Impact Week: June 1 - 7, 2007Here we are, halfway through Low Impact Week!

I wanted to congratulate you all and encourage you to keep up the good work. If you haven't done so yet, don't forget to take the Low Impact Week poll to let us know how you're doing!

In the spirit of Low Impact Week, I'm holding a contest. The winner of the contest will receive a care package to help them continue doing the good things they started this week.

This gift basket will include items to help with some of the 7 areas of impact:

  • Package of CFL bulbs
  • Lowflow showerhead
  • Reusable produce bags
  • 100% recycled plastic kitchen garbage bags
  • EcoDent toothbrush with replaceable head
  • Organic natural soap

Contest rules: the day after Low Impact Week ends (Friday 6/8) I will announce a question related to what you've been working on. You'll have until the following Monday (6/11) to post your answer. The answer I like the best (and I'll try to not look at who the submitter is) will be the winner. Sure, it's subjective, but it's my contest dammit :)

The winner will be announced Tuesday, 6/12!

Cool! I love the idea of a contest! I got another kid in my class to do it, and we are having so much fun! I have to say that my true triumph was not turning on my computer for 2 days straight. For me, that's incredible! Well, in reality, I haven't been too low-impact this week, but I did sort-of have a low impact week last week. I slept outside, and everything! I didn't feel fantastic about doing that two weeks in a row, but I'm still trying to accomplish some of my other goals!

I'm a bit miffed today - I packed a lunch today, but had to run out of the office to go to the post office, so I decided to pick up something at taco bell. I figured it would have less packaging then the stuff in my lunch - it would be wrapped in paper.

In the plastic bag (which I will reuse) was ANOTHER plastic bag with the napkin, 3 pieces of paper, a wet nap, and a peppermint in a plastic wrapper!

I definitely will be packing my lunch the rest of the week!

I'm so proud of myself today. I had to take something bulky to the gym for a friend today and was running late to boot. Was SOOO tempted to hop in the car and drive, but I didn't. I strapped the big thing on the rack and peddled fast. It feels good to have not been in a car since Thursday!

Can't wait to see what question you have for us.

I wanted to thank you again. This week is JUST what I needed to do some thinking and some practicing. A huge challenge was just beyond where I am right now--but you are wonderful for giving me an excuse to think, talk to my partner, and even blog about it intensely for a short time. Kudos!

CC, The contest sounds cool and you know I'll be enterring. But I wanted to say that I think, just from reading the few comments here and from my experiences so far, that the biggest reward that we are all getting is the experience.
We learn some things by experience like Leigh. (Don't feel bad, I drove all the way across town to go to a movie because I had free tickets. The gas probably cost me as much as the tickets would have.)Other things we learn by pushing ourselves to deny our will to do the easy thing Like Chile. And we all get to read about each others experiences and learn and grow from those. I'd say we all come out ahead, but hey, I'm certainly not one to pass up an opportunity for a swag bag so bring on the competition. ;-)
