Let me just tell you this: the average person uses as many as 25 personal care products, exposing themselves to upwards of 100 different chemicals before breakfast. So, since the FDA does not test the chemicals in any cosmetic product before it hits store shelves and is not authorized to require recalls of cosmetics that are found to contain toxins, why not give the natural alternative a whirl?

I've been using olive oil - love it!
25! What a waste.
I use 2 - soap and shampoo. That's all for years and years.
I'm starting to think there should be an entirely separate blog devoted to the wonders of coconut oil... or just coconuts in general. As another example: I just made coconut-milk ice cream (dairy-free, of course) and it was AMAZING -- so much better than those crappy soy-based varieties.
Coconut oil is so incredible, and I've heard that it is very similar to the sebum our skin normally produces. I've been using it as a face lotion for a few weeks and am LOVING the results. AND, it's super cheap when you consider how little gets used! Muy bueno!
Crunchy, I just had to say thanks for this post - I had tried making my own from various oils and it was too oily. I used my coconut oil the night I read this post and I have been using it ever since! LOVE it! Not too greasy, washes away quickly and it works.
