I just realized that I haven't had a poll in, like, forevah! And, I haven't gotten you grinding your crackers on the political front in a whole week. What is wrong with me?So, I thought I'd throw in a political poll, thereby killing two birds with one stone. That and, well, I don't have a whole lot of time to write a post, but I've got some more serious ones in the hopper. I just need to find the time to write them.
Anyhoo, since we've all had time to recover from the national conventions, it's time to take the pulse of the Crunchy readers. I framed the question to allow non-U.S. citizens to participate as well. Since we are all part of this here global community and all.

Unfortunately, my freebie polling software limits my choices to seven, but one thing I wanted to include but couldn't was whether or not people were voting for "their" party based on platform even though they weren't too pleased with the people running.
Finally, I'm quite upset at all the fuss over the Olivia smear campaign. Leave this children's book character alone! She's just a pig for crying out loud!
While I was unaware of an Olivia smear campaign (and, frankly, I was unaware of Olivia), I do like pigs! :-) Let's put one in the White House :-D

ReplyDeleteIs it the 3rd party issue? Because that's what I'm totally struggling with. I want to vote third party, really I do. But I'm afraid if I do, a)my person won't win (that's obvious) and b) the wrong person WILL win.
Sigh. I'm going to have an early morning G&T, I think. :(
I just wish more people would actually vote based on issues, and not on sound bites, or on who's got better hair, or on who they can most readily identify with. I mean, how many average Americans can really identify with a politician? Really? And does it even matter? I don't have to have a president that's just like me - one that's competent, gracious and gave half a crap would do. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI vote we make a new amendment (why not, they do it all the time) that says members of congress and Presidents cannot keep any money from book deals or speaking engagements and all profits must be given toward the national debt. I wonder how many people would run then?

ReplyDeleteIts not that I want any of them to be president, its that I have to pick one ticket and Obama/Biden looks the least scary at this point.... I wonder what its like to actually vote for a presidential candidate because I actually like them. What a concept that would be.

ReplyDeleteMeadowlark, if you're in a non-swing state, it's really easy to ignore the third party=wasted vote retoric.
ReplyDeleteMy state's gonna go McCain no matter who I vote for. No matter who a couple thousand of my closest friends vote for.
I'm not terribly impressed with anyone actually on the ticket at this point. Unless something major changes, I'll probably write someone in.
As far as the two major candidates go, what exactly do you think the substantive difference is going to be between their presidencies? Because at this point, I don't believe there is any. It's gonna be the exact same cake, just one's gonna use red food coloring in the frosting and the other's going to use blue. And Congress is going to make darn sure that it's so.
I wish "politician" wasn't actually a career--it allows too many opportunities for decisions based on bribes rather than what's really important. Politicians should be people who work like the average person, run for office, work to make things better for a few years, then have to return home to live with the laws they've made. When you're able to make politics a career, you become more concerned with staying in office in order to keep your job.
ReplyDeleteI'm voting for a third party, because I want to vote based on conscience, not on rhetoric. I think if more of us did that, a 3rd party would have more of a chance to enter into the arena.

I'm registered to vote as a democrat; I identify most as a democrat (only because in this country there's not a whole lot of reason to identify outside of the two major parties--your candidate will never be elected in a major election). But, I will not be voting in this election as I do not care for either of the candidates. I refuse to vote for someone just because they happen to fall under the same umbrella party.

ReplyDeleteI'm a registered Republican. I will not be voting Republican. Not sure who I'll vote for... Maybe Nader? Maybe Green Party? Not sure. Funny how when I was 18 and knew nothing about politics I decided I was Repub, extremely right wing, reactionary really. As in go back in time and live like 200 years ago, grow/raise our own food, burn wood, family first... yeah I don't think anyone's running on that ticket, haha!
ReplyDeleteObama will win my state no matter what, so I see my vote as a "throw away" anyhow, so I may as well vote along my ideals or not vote at all.
As Emma Goldman put it, "If voting changed anything, it would be illegal." I vote though gods know why. Actually its because I think anything would be better than 4 more years of the Republicans. But don't ever expect anything to actually change in this country without a full scale revolution. And then things would get worse because US citizens are among the most ignorant sheep ever, hell they elected GWB once after seeing him perform for 4 pathetic years.
