Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

Sweet sweater deals

With the ambient air temperatures getting a little chilly around here, I've been wishing I had a few more sweaters to be wearing about the house. On the other hand, I don't want to invest a ton of money on brand new sweaters since half the time they don't fit me right anyway (because I am a giant) and buying Tall sizes gets pretty expensive.

So, what did I do? I went for a stroll through Value Village, which is a used clothing store similar to Goodwill or whatever you have in your neck of the woods.

I managed to find two name brand sweaters (one was a Tall size), both of which fit me quite well and each of them were $6.99. You really can't beat that. Well, except for free.

You are a GIANT!!! Gee Crunchy, I love this environmentally themed blog and all, and I have learned a lot and carry a lot more guilt around as a result, but I think that a blog on the perils of life as a giant would be pretty darn interesting as well. Think on it... Maybe some day when you are environmentally uninspired. Like that is ever going to happen you inner city goat girl you!

rechelle - do I sense some jealousy over your freakishly tall sister or are you, too, challenged as well?

Great deals, Crunchy! Gotta love thrift stores. It's amazing how many clothes in excellent condition end up there, and many of them name brands. Virtually all of our outerwear, with the exception of shoes, come from thrift stores.

I've also been stocking up on blankets to make it through your latest challenge. And I've picked up 3 quilts for future window quilt projects.

I LOVE thrift stores. :) Just purchased some fall sweaters and long sleeve tees myself at our local Thrift Center. I got 6 tops for under ten dollars. I can't believe the quality and name brands too - no reason to ever shop new again!

I've always been a part-time thrifter but have recently joined Wardrobe Refashion and have committed to two months with nothing new at all. Not that I'm a big shopper but something about making that commitment was very freeing. I don't even think about getting anything new and it's wonderful.
On the subject of free stuff, I'm making a shameless plug for the Pass It Along Giveaway I'm having on my blog. Nothing huge but some nice things for free just because I wanted to promote good karma and all that stuff.

Crunchy,

First of all...Rechelle has suffered severe bouts of jealousy ever since I poked my head out of my mother's womb.

Secondly....I feel your frustration, but isn't it nice that shirts are starting to get longer? Obviously this is to cover the newly exposed coin slotage, but it really works for me, being a gigantress and all.

A hint from a similarly challenged giantess....

Check out the guys dept in the thrift stores. Guys sweaters are longer, and a lot of times you can find really nice "girly" ones over there.

I recently took my 18 year old to a place called Platos Closet. She was looking for some dress clothes to wear-skirts, dress shirts and pants. She walked out with 3 shirts, 3 skirts and a pair of really nice dress pants for $10. It's all used clothing-most brand names. She got everything off the clerance rack. Then we hit the thirift store found 2 blazers to go with the pants and another couple pairs of dress pants-spent another $8. She was so excited about her purchases. She cleaned everything up and worn the outfits to school. She was so pleased to get a whole new wardrobe makeover for under $20. I on the other hand just bought several hooded sweatjackets and some jeans-the hooded sweat jackets I found in the guys dept. They had cooler looking ones. Thrift stores are really great bargain!

Like Tara, I too am in Wardrobe Refashion - on my second "tour of duty". I'm only doing two months at a time - fear of long-term committment! I love it, through. I'm really honing my sewing skills.
Last week at the goodwill, I found a pair of Earl Jeans for $5. :)

My boyfriend and I went to Vallue Village on Sunday! :) It was his first visit and he geeked on the electronics and books they have there. I found a lovely ceramic jar for holding my Glad Rags. (I'm a recent convert). Excellent! :)

Ah yes, thrift store shopping! I love doing that, b/c you can almost always find exactly what you want/need for way way less. I have been thrift shopping for maternity clothes and love what I have been finding. Oh, another fun way to get "new" clothes, have a clothing swap with your girlfriends. I throw or attend one at least once a year and you get to clean out your closet and get new stuff also. Plus, the leftovers go to a charitable organization (at all the swaps I have been to) so everyone wins!

I'm a fan of a good thrift store. Even better is a neighborhood yard sale if it is close to where you live. ( I go to my sister's neighborhood once a year and stock up on sweaters for me and my family.)

I'm a hard fit too ( long torso)--so I feel your joy at finding the right thing.

Have you tried knitting? Now that's a great way to get a custom fit.

Blessings!

Great Blog BTW!
