Super Short Saturday Question

What's your current occupation and, if you could do anything (money weren't an issue), what would you do?

  1. Computer Science.

If I could make the same as I do now, I'd rather be writing - I would do that in a heartbeat.

  2. I stay home with the kiddos, and make baby slings to sel at our local baby store. I also occasionally work for some friends who have an organic vegetable farm.

I'm still not sure what I want to be when I grow up (other than "mommy")

  3. Currently I'm a server at a pizza restaurant working my way through school to do what I want, which is to be a sign language interpreter (one more class) and a teacher.
But my goal in life is to live on a self sustaining farm.

  9. I'm a Domestic Engineer, (commonly known as a sahm)but if I could do anything w/out money being an issue I think I would like to volunteer my time to areas across the U.S teaching kids to read or starting up programs to keep kids off the street and in constructive activites...not just in big cities but in rural areas as well.

  11. I'm an ESL teacher at a vocational adult school.

I'd like to have a job that pays me to read in bed, daydream in cafes, meander at farmers markets, and try out new recipes. But for now I already do all that part-time, without boss or pay ;)

  13. Environmental Educator/naturalist

But I'm going to get my teaching certificate and do formal ed instead. If money were no object, I'd continue the naturalist gig. It's pretty sweet.

  14. Right now, I'm a full-time traveler, mama & wife, activist/educator, and photographer.

I love it all...and can't imagine doing anything else! If I had more money...I would just do MORE of those things!

  15. I'm a stay at home mom. In the past, I've milked cows, taken care of the elderly, worked at a pizza place, bank tellering, and bookkeeping. I loved working at all the different jobs, and I love being a stay at home mom. If I could do anything...I'd do exactly what I'm doing.

  16. Currently SAHM, former kindergarten teacher. As a hobby, I make handmade soap and other "natural as possible" bath products. If money were no issue, I'd make my soaping a full time occupation with a soap kitchen and lots of time and materials to create. Still being a SAHM, of course!

  19. Live Simply. I'm doing it now full-time. I would do it no matter what. Life is short. I can't imagine giving away my life again...not even for just eight hours a day. I may be officially spoiled!

Another potential question for everyone: When will you begin rearranging your life so you can do what you truly want to do?

  20. When will I begin rearranging my life? Well, as I said before, I'm doing exactly what I want to do. However, the reason I'm able to do what I'm doing is because my husband goes to work 40 to 50 hours a week at a job he hates. We are already rearranging our lives so he can get out of that job. We're hoping that within another 4 years, we'll arrive at that crossroad where he can quit.

  21. I work part-time as an academic advisor/program coordinator for a large state University. The other part of the week, I am home with my son. I still don't know what I want to be when I grow up, but if money were no object, I would like to be a full time stay-at-home-mom. I would love to be able to do that with no pressure for the next 5 or 10 years while we work to simplify further and figure out IF I want to do any more "formal" work in the future!

  22. My husband and I both retired from Computer Science careers. Maybe because I didn't have the luxury of raising my 3 kids without also working fulltime (and finishing school at the same time), I appreciate retirement more than others might. I LOVE being a bum!

Unlike some of y'all, though, I have no desire to be a luddite. We're trying to keep our footprints low without totally sacrificing modern technology.

  23. I'm currently a licensed home daycare provider.

If money were no object I would want to be an adoptive mom to about 10 kids and run a few non-profits- one to support foster parents in what they do, and start a community center and toolsharing (etc) cooperative for the other. Ooh and maybe start a Sudbury school too.

Right now we are pursuing that... I hope to be able to get the daycare in another hours and hire employees to do the everyday work there. We just became foster parents, but are only licensed for two more kids until we move the daycare out of the house so that we'll have more bedrooms. Basically we're working on making money an object by trying to get my business primarily self-sustaining if that makes sense.

  24. I'm an accounting manager. It's what I want to do for the rest of my life (well, with promotions - I'd love to be a CFO someday). I love digging into accounting issues, creating new innovative solutions, and interpreting data.

    Ahem, I'm also a geek. :)

  25. I work for a green company by day... BUT want more than anything to be a full time pinhole photographer. I'm working on that, but it takes time.

I also want to just make things all day and sell them. But successful gallery artist is my dream job.

If you don't know what pinhole is, here is my website: www.sheilabocchine.com

  27. I'm a home daycare provider, but if money weren't an issue, I'd want to run a non-profit that provides doulas to incarcerated women. I've heard some horror stories about how these mamas are treated during their labors and deliveries, and it makes me cry.
