Got a lot of blackberries? Then check out this recipe for Blackberry Mojito Fruit Leather.

I'm not a huge fan of fruit leathers, but this turned out super good! And, really, you can't go wrong with blackberries, mint and rum.

I am an urban homesteader, living in Seattle with my husband, two children and a rescued chihuahua cat. We've spent close to a decade trying to lower our impact on the environment and reduce our exposure to toxic chemicals. I started this blog almost 10 years ago and, save for the huge gaps where I've neglected it, it's been a non-stop thrill ride ever since.

I wrote a book about toxins in the environment and how pervasive they are, covering such nasties as phthalates, heavy metals, parabens, pesticides and more. The book starts and ends with me getting toxic body burden testing done to see if we have any control over our toxic exposure and how difficult it is to eradicate them from our environment. The book, The Non-Toxic Avenger: What you don't know can hurt you, was published in November 2011 from New Society Publishers.

When I'm not working on urban homesteading projects, I work for a regional governmental natural resources agency and by night, I write this blog.

I have had the fortune of being interviewed as a green expert by major media outlets such as The New York Times, USA Today, The Scientific American and even the National Enquirer (please see the Media page for full listing, if you are interested). Technorati kindly listed this blog in the top 3,000 blogs at one point in time, and I get a goodly amount of traffic - know you are in good company as there are about 70,000 other readers out there.
