Check out my new book, The Non-Toxic Avenger: What You Don't Know Can Hurt You, available from Amazon.

About C.C.

I am an urban homesteader, living in Seattle, with my husband, two children and three chickens, a rescued chihuahua and four fish. We are not only living with cancer (multiple myeloma - two stem cell transplants later) and autism, but are trying to lower our impact on the environment and reduce our exposure to toxic chemicals. I started this blog almost 5 years ago and it's been a non-stop thrill ride ever since.

I wrote a book about toxins in the environment and how pervasive they are, covering such nasties as phthalates, heavy metals, parabens, pesticides and more. The book starts and ends with me getting toxic body burden testing done to see if we have any control over our toxic exposure and how difficult it is to eradicate them from our environment. The book, The Non-Toxic Avenger: What you don't know can hurt you, was published in November 2011 from New Society Publishers.

I am currently working on a book, based on the Laura Ingalls Wilder series of books. My daughter and I are reenacting as much from the books as possible including everything from crafts, activities and recipes to the day-to-day aspects of pioneer living from cooking to bathing and heating. This upcoming book, tentatively titled, "Little House in the Big City: Pioneer Living without the Prairie" will be available Fall 2012 from New Society Publishers.

When I'm not working on a book, I work for a regional governmental natural resources agency and by night, I write this blog. In addition, I also write as an Expert Urban Homesteader for Mother Earth News Online and am the Personal Care Consultant for the eco-makeover show, Mission: Sustainable.

I have had the fortune of being interviewed as a green expert by major media outlets such as The New York Times, USA Today, The Scientific American and even the National Enquirer (please see the Media page for full listing, if you are interested). Technorati has kindly listed this blog in the top 3,000 blogs and I get a goodly amount of traffic - know you are in good company as there are about 70,000 other readers out there.

To say I am passionate about green living and environmentalism is a huge understatement. If anything, I'd say it's an infectious disease, the only way of curing me is in my attempt to educate, educate, educate. And that is why I write this blog - to let people know what their impact is and to let them know there are other options out there and still live a satisfying life!
