So, I live in San Diego and am rather impatient for the two avocados (or "abocados" as my daughter calls them) that we planted last year to produce some fruit. Yes, I know we have a few years to go. Apples and peaches. I live in the tropics so bananas, mangoes, and avocados (not to mention lots of other unique fruits) abound. I love mangoes though so it is a fair trade-off.

Fruit period. Most of our fruit here is shipped in from somewhere as I live on northern prairie. In summer we do have local berries and crab apples off the trees but most of the apples come from BC.

I livev in subtropical Queensland and love avocado any time. I do so love cherries amd they are a rare treat for me. Our season will start soon but no matter what I buy they will come a long way to make it to my home. In our winter I have been known to splurge on a few Washinton cherries and that is a huge sin. The air miles are outrageous and I am baffled as to how they can get them here and they are the same price as our local ones in summer.

My uncle had an avocado tree which would produce football sized fruit! I was amazed the first time I saw it!!! Sorry Cali ... you just can't compete. :(

Can't these be grown indoors, like lemons? I have heard that if you plant a pit it will become a nice houseplant but not flower, so now I am wondering if it requires hand polination like the lemons? Anyone... cause this is something that isn't local that I can't give up.

Clementines! Just when the apples are going out of season, those beautiful little orange fruits arrive. So in the winter I love clementines and pineapple, too.

I guess it would be apples. We don't grow them here in Hawaii, but we have just about everything else. I try to abstain but I found the occasional baked apple helps with my [backwards] seasonal affective disorder.

Mmmm. Jealous. During every visit to California to see my inlaws, I seriously indulge on avocados. Other than that, I miss mango (dried or fresh), bananas, apples, papaya...

We're good on veggies here. We can grow about anything. The fruit hits us hard though so I splurge every once in awhile.
