Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

Globe and Mail article

Here's the article about Freezing Yer Buns in the Canadian newspaper, The Globe and Mail, titled My war on the heating bill: I’m buying slippers. It all sounds rather reasonable to reduce the heat, no?

I am Canadian and we, too, had one of those energy audits done this winter. It didn't take long for the indoor temperature to plummet when the door was open and the fan sucked all the hot air out and pulled the cold air through. We came out pretty well, actually, considering our house is 140 years old. However,we ARE going to take their advice and upgrade our windows, etc.

One thing I have noticed: it's much easier to tolerate a lower indoor temperature when the outdoor temperature is tolerable which, for me, would be about minus 5C or above and no wind than when the outdoor temperature is around minus 20C with a windchill of about minus 30 or 35.

The comments on that article are so much more reasonable and accepting than on the last article that mentioned Freeze Yer Buns! I'm impressed.

Very nice article. I am not canadian, but I might as well be, being born 20 some miles from the border in ND. And putting a sweater on is the first defense in staying warm, ya betcha!

...and people say New Zealand is cold! We get 2-3 snow days a year here in Dunedin (south island), with the coldest it gets being down to freezing.

I have absolutely NO INTENTION of freezing my buns! Instead, I've forked out for 100% green power, locally produced.

I hope that's satisfactory!
