Well, it's official. I have strep. So, even though I feel fine (mostly) today, I'll be embarking on 10 days of penicillin mostly because my hubs has a compromised immune system.
I'll try posting tomorrow, but if I'm MIA, it's because I'm feeling lumpy.

19 Crunchy Thoughts:
Eat lots of chicken soup...wait would that be cannabilism? Hope you feel better soon!
Try some nice hot tea with lemon honey syrup.
Don't breathe on your monitor! I don't want to catch it from you.
- the super-susceptible to strep chile pepper
Ouch - I had strep throat a few months ago...kinda like swallowing glass isn't it? Hope you feel better soon.
take a bloggy break and get some rest. you deserve it. hope you are better soon.
Ick. Well, you kind of need your mitral valve, so penicillin is still good even if you don't feel bad, and hubby wasn't immunocompromised.
I hope you get back on your feet soon!

take very good care. my daughter had strep at Christmas and it turned to mono.
Yuck! I have had strep a few times and it is NO FUN!! I'm so sorry you have such a nasty illness. You should be feeling much better in a day or so after starting the meds. Get better soon!
Thanks everyone. The weird thing is that I feel fine. No sore throat or anything - it only lasted about 3 days.
The on-call doctor who did the strep test on Saturday was surprised (alarmed?) that I was feeling fine today. Must be those Wolverine genes.
"Delurking" to say I hope you feel better soon. Well, I don't think I am actually a lurker, because I only started reading your blog this weekend....but I DID read from Jan 1 2008 all the way through to today's entry. (Hey, it was a slow weekend!)Sometime I'll get around to reading 2007. I have heard your name mentioned from time to time on some of my favourite blogs, I'm glad I finally came to check it out form myself.
Make sure to disinfect your toothbrush in alcohol ....
oh, and take ALL of the antibiotics, please! :)
Strep's funny like that. I get it every year or so from the children I work with. Once you get those antibiotics in you, you feel GREAT.
Oh... and eat lots of yogurt. LOTS of it. My girly parts always hate antibiotics, so I have to make due with extra probiotics.
Feel better! Or, after reading the comments, glad you are feeling better. Can't keep a good woman down.
Get Well Soon!
And,hey, maybe you could write a post about pharmaceuticals, are they harming the environment or not, do vegans take meds to get better, do pharmaceuticals have any thing in them that would be counter-conscious to an environmentalist?
I NEVER have understood why people would flush old meds in the toilet. why not just throw in the trash? HELLO.
Hope you don't get too lumpy, and feel 100% very soon :) Also, try and remember to eat some yogurt and/or take some good probiotics every day to keep your digestive tract healthy while the penecillin is killing everything off (sorry, that's the health practitioner in me talking, can't stop her.)
My MIL's boyfriend (age 90-ish, but 'old fart friend' isn't acceptable) flushes all drugs. Granted, he's dumb as a post. But he is SURE that drug addicts are going thru' everyone's garbage taking all pills. Antibiotics, aspirin, premarin, antiacids - apparently he feels that drug addicts are hot for all of 'em.
Crunchy, the doctor on call is probably afraid that you are going to be a carrier - a person who has sub-clinical constant strep infection, who can infect those around you. Which would be especially a problem with your hubby's immune system. Thus enough antibiotics to pasturize you!

Fernwise - you might pass better disposal tips on to your MIL's boyfriend. Flushing drugs contributes to pharmaceutical contamination of our drinking water supply.
When I volunteered at a humanitarian organization that shipped medical supplies for disaster relief, the nurses showed us the proper way to dispose of outdated pills: put them all in a gallon jug (smaller for less pills), fill with water, and tape the lid on tight. Let sit for a week and then dispose of in the regular garbage. With the lined landfills, this is less likely to seep into groundwater than simply flushing them into the sewer system.
Feel better Crunchy and do take all those antibiotics!
As for pill disposal yes don't flush but around Seattle and in much of the country you can return them to your pharmacist for proper disposal. Assuming you have a local pharmacist and aren't doing mail order. Some places even have laws requiring them to take them back.
Geez, you can't win lately! Sorry to hear it - hope you feel better soon.
Chili, no one can tell my MIL's boyfriend ANYTHING. However, he treats my MIL really well, even if he isn't the sharpest tack in the box. So he has ONE saving grace!
