Today, I want to share with you how the distribution of cloth menstrual pad kits went in Sudan in May. I sent over 100 kits to be distributed to the girls in a new school there. It was a great success and, since then, they have asked for an additional 25 kits which I sent out this week. NESEI, the non-profit that runs the school, has another group going to visit next week so they'll be distributing the additional kits to the new students starting this fall.

The distribution of 100 kits to the girls in southern Sudan through NESEI in May was a resounding success!According to NESEI spokeswoman Mari Kenton Wright:
It went so, so well, and the girls were extremely grateful to receive [the kits]! We led workshops as part of their orientation about how to use and clean the kits. The girls were very receptive and excited to have such nice sanitary pads.
The girls really enjoyed the "girls only" workshop, and really opened up about the subject. I was amazed at how frank and honest they were with me about menstruation and questions about it. It was a wonderful day and they were so happy to get the kits. They are wonderful young women - thank you for helping them!
We really hope to keep this partnership alive; it will make such a difference in our students' lives!
Mari also stated that the initiative to bring the sustainable kits has been "a huge success. This is an important issue they no longer have to worry about as they pursue a life changing, quality education."
NESEI intends to keep up the partnership with Goods 4 Girls, so that cloth pads will be available for students at future NESEI schools, which plan to enroll 10,000 young Sudanese women in high school by 2015.
Goods 4 Girls looks forward to continuing working in Sudan to help out the many girls there. You can read more about the partnership with NESEI here.
