Last week was a banner week for Goods 4 Girls. We received 292 pads and 52 carry cases. Many thanks to GladRags for their generous donation of 178 pads and 44 carry cases. For those of you who don't know what this is about, Goods 4 Girls is a program to donate cloth menstrual pads to girls in need in Africa.
We now have enough pads received to supply all the orphan girls in the Kabondo community in Western Kenya. As soon as I have the instructions finalized and printed up, then the first shipment will go out!
All together we've received 367 pads and 53 carry cases with several more boxes waiting at the P.O. that I'll pick up tomorrow. I know there are many more out there, but some manufacturers are waiting to fill their boxes before shipping.
Lunapads is now offering a Goods 4 Girls Kit and a Goods 4 Girls Lunapanties Kit at cost on their website. Why the Lunapanties? Well, in some areas the girls do not have underwear, so this kit resolves the issues with distributing supplies to those areas. The kit is highlighted on their main page and they mentioned their partnership with Goods 4 Girls in a recent newsletter and have a couple of articles on their blog describing their participation in the program. It is another fantastic way to help spread the word.
I also wanted to make sure everyone knew that GladRags is now offering a Goods 4 Girls Kit on their website. They, too, have mentioned their participation with Goods 4 Girls in a recent newsletter as well.
We also have some new retailers joining in the donations, so check out the How To Donate page for the full list.
You may have noticed a donate button on my right navbar. That's correct, I've finally gotten Goods 4 Girls set up to receive cash donations (100% of money received will be used towards shipping costs and purchasing additional supplies). So, if you don't know what to buy or make or you only want to donate a dollar or two here and there, you can now do it!
Finally, I was truly humbled by the $250 donation made by check last week to the program. This will cover the shipping costs for several shipments as well as provide the funds for buying additional supplies.
One last thing and I'll shut up - I'm hoping to announce partnership with two additional aid organizations soon, one in Kenya and one in Uganda that will help with distribution. This is coming together so well and so fast and I have all of you and your hard work to thank for it.
Keep up the good work everyone!

19 Crunchy Thoughts:
This is great. What positive contribution to the lives of the young women who receive these supplies. You are one cool chicken!
Crunchy, that's just fantastic news. Way to go!
Rock. On!
I'm going to scare up some flannel and get busy!
Thanks for organizing all of this.
Blessings to you and to all the participants making and receiving.
You Rock!
I am so happy for you. This has been so successful in such a short time!
WOOHOO!

I was planning on sewing some. Do you still need more?
Yaay! That's awesome! Here's a thought about panties - What about contacting Hanes Her Way or FOTL and asking about donations of factory seconds? I'm not meaning to put more work on you - if you're interested, I would gladly do the calling for you (though I never check my google acct, so if you're interested in making me your slave, give me a heads up in the comments and I'll send you my e-mail/phone info)
How incredibly exciting! Real help for real people with real needs...this is the way all help should happen.
Everyone involved should feel very proud! And Crunch--you did good, girl!...Well done.
You are doing such a great thing here! I've got to get busy making some, I have the material but haven't found the time. I may order one of the kits to be delivered while I wait to find the time to make some.
I think the real kudos go to you for getting this all started...and organized! What a fabulous project :-)
This is sooo incredibly cool. A bunch of people fired up over reusable sanitary pads... who'd have thunk it?!? Thanks for all your hard work!
Hi,
Do you think any of these pads could be hand sewn?
Ya done good, girl.
We had a call party for Obama Sunday before this last one and after calling we watched Obama in Africa. One of the women started talking about her last trip to Africa with her church [They dig wells.] and I brought up Goods4Girls and Crunchy Chicken who started it all. They had a good laugh at Crunchy Chicken (the moniker). I imagine after the word really gets around you'll need staff to accommodate all the donations.
Etsy.com has a bunch of people that make and sell reusable pads. This could be another outlet if the sellers are willing.
:-) very dang impressive. Big big smiles, for you.
Crunchy, you're inspiring. This months Bitch magazine has an article about the procter & gamble campaign. So I just sent them an email about what you're doing. I encourage all your readers to contact them-either by mail or email. Then maybe they'll print something next issue as a follow up, or at least post something on their website. You rock!

that is such wonderful news! you rock. :)
Can I just point out that it has been less than ONE MONTH since this ball started rolling? Crunchy, I hold you in awe. You have done such a wonderful job capturing this wave of enthusiasm. Congratulations!
A few thoughts that may or may not be useful:
1. For heaven's sake, don't send these precious bundles via the US postal service. Go with a carrier that can give you delivery confirmation.
2. If possible, get video/photos of the girls receiving their new pads. It'll reassure all your donors that their hard work benefits the people who really need it.
This is just amazing! You are an inspiration! I'm happy for your quick success and hope it continues, keep on cluckin'!
Standing O for Crunchy.
How do you have time to do all this? You amaze me.
