Freezing is subjective

Not so cold after allYou'd think it was 85 degrees in my house the way my daughter walks around in a state of undress. It can be the middle of February and the house is 62 degrees and she wants to wear her bathing suit. Or one of her many dress-up dresses that provide zero warmth whatsoever.

As you can see, she certainly doesn't appear to be bothered by the reduced temperatures we've been subjecting her to since I started the Freeze Yer Buns Challenge back in the fall. If anything, we have all acclimated quite well. Some of us, clearly, better than others. Please note the sensible shoes.

Next Sunday, I'll be posting a Freeze Yer Buns wrap-up. Sure, many of us still have cold weather, but spring is finally here and it's time to think ahead to warm weather.

Of course, Emma will be wanting to wear her snow boots in July.

Ahh - it was a balmy 42 here yesterday with 20-25mph semisustained winds....when I sent the kids out to play my 6 year old demanded that since Friday was the 1st day of spring he could wear shorts! And he did.....
meanwhile I cleaned the garage looking like nanook of the north - all bundled up.

My almost 2 year old also insists on nothing but pure style...a onesie and a bicycle helmet.

ha! My 4 year old went through the nekid stage for awhile, but recently I purchased him some muck boots, he won't wear any other shoes now. It has to be the muck boots.

That picture totally cracks me up. She's adorable in her swimsuit and dress-up shoes! My youngest daughter did not voluntarily put on clothing until she was about six years old. I always felt like the day was a success if she had on more than a pair of panties.

My son is the same way. I'll be in sweats, under a blanket and he'll be walking around with no shirt on.

Smidgen has moods- nekkid being one of them. Here today, gone tomorrow, back next week.

I really don't think anyone needs to worry about the temperature for these little creatures. Their internal furnace has a wide range, and a good thermostat. Do they normally hesitate to let you know if they're uncomfortable?

The physiological adaptations to cooler temperatures can take weeks to really kick in. But they're there.

Don't forget the matching band-aids! They truly pull the whole outfit together! :)

We've acclimated a bunch too. It's funny - in the early winter, the cold of our house seems unbearable. Now I often turn the heat off completely. I'm plenty warm.

Crunchy, I too have a daughter, Emma, who would wear a variety of skimpy clothing in winter while sporting her oversized cowboy boots for every, and I mean every occasion. She did finally grow out of this stage (she's now 22) when the boots got too small. She now has two tiny boys who like to run around in nothing much...I just laugh!

When my kids were 3 and 7 we used to keep the house at 60 and 54. We were saving money back then. They never complained, never bundled up and didn't get colds either!
By the way, GREAT new picture-yer a real babe!

My kids do the same! We've all definitely acclimated to the change from 68/70 to the new 65 when we're home and awake. Next year we'll try to go even lower!

spring? oh how I wish for spring! It was snowing yesterday and the high for tomorrow is 31. I almost froze to death at the easter egg hunt (my daughter had just spilled a whole cup of water on me, so I had to stand in the windy 25 degree field while she hunted eggs. brrrr...)

come on spring!

jane_hates_dick - your daughter will wear panties? score! we can often get our three year old to wear clothes (creative clothes, of course) but panties are a real sticking point for her - we've started making more of an effort to get her to wear them after her precshool teacher made a couple of snarky comments.

This is my daughter too... a bathing suit all the time, LOL.

I find that any temp above 35ish is starting to feel nice and cozy to me. Heck, if it is 50 or above I wear a bathing suit all day.

I'm with Ducky... the band-aids make the outfit.

It might officially be spring, but we're still freezing our buns off over here. Temps will be in the teens tonight, with highs in the 30s for the forseeable future. Oh, joy! I could use me some spring.

Why does Emma always steal my fashion ideas?!?!!? God. It's so embarrassing.

My kids do this, too. In fact, just the other day, my daughter was playing hopscotch in our driveway with her sister. She was barefooted. We live in Maine. The warmest it's been in the past three months is 45°.
