Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

How do you spend Super Bowl Sunday?

Today is a big day for a lot of football fans. Never having been much into football, I'm generally totally oblivious to the festivities.

We won't be watching it, but I will be having a party of sorts. I am making a dinner party out of scraps (for Project Nowaste here). You'll see what I mean - I'll be posting about it soon.

Since the Super Bowl is in Arizona this year, I'm sure that Chile will be hosting the entire state at her big blowout party to see who wins.

And speaking of winners, congratulations again to kssnflwr for winning the Reader Appreciation Day gift card.

I am delaying my trip to the grocery store in order to avoid the last minute rush of Superbowl related snack shoppers. Looking forward to hearing about your dinner of scraps...

Growing up, my family used to go out to dinner on Super Bowl Sunday...the roads are almost empty, and you don't need a reservation anywhere. Today, I was planning on doing some dishes, and I have a hot date with a reference textbook. ;-)

Berrybird, we don't go out on the afternoon or evening of the Stupidbowl but it has nothing to do with snacking shoppers. Our concern is with DRUNKS. Pregame coverage started at noon. The game starts at 4 pm. Before it starts, there will be a flood of traffic to the convenience, grocery, and liquor stores to restock the alcohol supplies. Come halftime, many will choose to miss the show because they've, again, run outta beer. Afterwards, they have to get more because they'll need to drink to celebrate the win or drink to deal with the disappointment of the loss.

Do I sound pessimistic? Yeah. But I also can guarantee you that several of my neighbors will be making trips at predictable times. Staying off the roads is the safest option today!

Crunchy dear, anyone not interested in football is welcome to head on over to my place. However, they will be put to work. The neighbor said I can harvest the Meyer lemons off her tree, I've got my own grapefruit to process, and another friend has offered me the entire harvest from her large prolific orange tree. I could certainly use some help! BYOMJ. (Bring Your Own Marmalade Jars)

While everyone else is indoors, watching the game, I will be sneaking around local construction sites, scrounging rocks for my garden.

It is really all about the snacks for my kids, they don't care about the game. Actually any chance to watch tv is pretty fun ( we don't have tv). They follow the snacks to my mother in law's house.

We went to the grocery store for our weekly shopping trip and saw the parking lot was FULL, and thought, "What the heck ...?" and then remembered. It was bizarre - all of those people. You'd think at 1:00 in the afternoon, they'd be home cleaning their houses for the parties with the shopping done yesterday. Silly people.

Didn't watch it due to the NE Pats cheating thing. Glad they got beat, but spent the evening doing other things. Watched House, though!

none of the above. I am sitting home and watching the game with my husband and my son. :)

Hey, I got to see Tom Petty on TV!

Got home from work just in time for half time, I guess. I thought they usually had these things in the afternoon?

We started with a really long walk in the woods to burn off energy since we've had more than our share of really cold weather-like-40. Then We herded down to the family room and watched Grumpy old Men, played board games and cards while the hubby watched the game. We didn't wwant to be out on the roads unless we absolutely had to-like Chile we wanted to avoid all the drunks we knew would be out.

I didn't see my option: watching at home with the kids. Actually my son watched, I watched until I dozed off, and the girls each watched part of the game.

Um, just curious....what are the "moral reasons"? It's a game, they're not slaughtering baby seals out there.

Hi Crunchy,

We didn't watch the SuperBowl-- we had a Groundhog's Day party! (I know, it was a day late, but we had scheduling problems). I was a bad non-locavore, just for the evening-- I bought forced tulips and imported asparagus.... we needed a little sign of spring here in snowy Iowa (our nearest resident groundhogs didn't bother to show their heads, unlike the Phils in Punxsutawney). The daughter of one of our guests, however, did show up wearing a "NY" placard around her neck, so she must have been one happy girl when she went to bed last night.
