Here are my answers to the questions that were submitted to the last Ask Crunchy:
1. What made you decide to put your kids into a school rather than homeschooling?
I went back and forth a million times on whether or not to homeschool the kids. I have done a bunch of research on homeschooling, looked into various curricula and "styles" of homeschooling (classical would be the way I would go), but in the end decided to go with the public schools as they are quite good in our area. A big concern of mine was being able to be effective in teaching my own kids and dealing with my own frustrations. But when it comes down to it, I just make too much money to justify staying home since I contribute more than half to the family income. If we were to homeschool, we'd have to sell our house and move to a more inexpensive area or back into a tiny house. If, for some reason, the kids would be better off with homeschooling, we would be prepared to do that, but it would have to be a pretty big problem with the schools.
2. How do you stay encouraged and positive?
Hmmm, that's a good question, because I tend to think I'm a negative and pessimistic person. The thing that keeps me positive is really just putting on blinders to some extent. I try to take a zen attitude on things (such as the state of the government or politics) and not get wrapped around the axle on issues, because I've done that for years and it doesn't get me anywhere. What keeps me encouraged is knowing that there are individuals out there (like you readers) who are willing to take on challenges and push yourselves outside the pressure of society or the government. The will to believe that each person can and does make a difference collectively is far more encouraging than anything you read in the news.
3. How about a post about clotheslines?
I have some posts about clotheslines from a while back: here's one.
That's it for now!
