Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

Wacky weather

Lightning in Astoria, QueensAs I mentioned earlier this week, we are having unseasonably cool weather. It looks like it will be another cool day today (mid 60s F and rainy).

I thought I'd check in with the rest of the world and see how things are in your neck of the woods.

Oh, yeah. Tornadoes in Brooklyn? WTF?

Being winter here (north Australia), I thought I'd resist the temptation to mess with your survey and stats. In any event, it started unseasonally cold, but now is unseasonally warm.

It's hot, hot, hot here. But I don't think it's unusually hot we always have hot summers. The really weird seasonally patterns is when I have flowers still in bloom in december instead of snow and cold. Two years in a row and I'm curisous to see what this winter will bring.

We are in one of the worst droughts since the Dust Bowl. Temps here have been over 100 degrees for the past 2 weeks - heat index in the 112-115 degree range. We are over 50 inches below normal in rain for the past 2.5 years. All the grass is done - we've had to feed our cattle hay through the entire spring and summer in addition to cutting the size of our herd about in half - there are hay shortages - large round rolls are reaching $75-90 a roll. It is truly heartbreaking to see so many farmers and ranchers going out of business because of hay prices and/or their ponds going dry!

We're having record high temperatures for the last few weeks - triple digits. We're having many particulate and ozone alerts this summer. They started in May.

I'm not far from you, so our weather has been much the same - rainy and cool. I don't like it hot, so I've kind of been enjoying that part, but I'm starting to worry that my tomatoes will never ripen!
