Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

'Low Impact Week' starts June 1st!

Low Impact Week: June 1 - 7, 2007A few people over on No Impact Man's blog were chatting about having a "No Impact Camp" or a "No Impact Week" for people to try out living lighter on the earth. Similar to the "Turn off your Television Week" thing.

I suggested having a "Low Impact Week" since there are a lot of barriers to truly having no impact for only a week. Plus, it's a lot more doable for the average family.

So, in the usual state of things, I decided on the spot to host my very own "Low Impact Week" starting the first week in June.

UPDATED: See this post for the guidelines!

~CC I read you over on NIM's blog and love it. I agree that No Impact for a week would be quite a challenge, but 'Low Impact' for a week is very doable. I would chalk this up as a raising awareness opportunity. Not to raise the awareness necessarily of anyone outside our homes, but to raise our own awareness to what the possibilities are for us. I read a great blog some time ago about building habits. The jist of it was that trying something out over the course of a week or a month is much easier to do because you know in your head that it's not permanent, so it's OK. But you try it out, see how it fits and little by little you're changing habits. Keep us posted. I would definitely be interested in posting info on it on my blog as well.

Sounds good but can I use the plastic bags I have already (mostly from MIL anyway) to pick up my dog's mess on her walks? Any other suggestions for ways to clean that up? I really can't just leave it in the neighbors' yards...they already think I'm an eco-nut!

Hey, CC! Would you like a co-promoter on this? I thought it was a fantastic idea! I could put it up over at "my place," too (with all proper credit, of course! (I also need to add you to my "Great Green Sites" Blogroll...)

This is a great idea. Except once I get to work my low-impact-ness will spiral out of control. I have 3 machines on my desk!

hey guys, I made some updates to the post so see the more recent one here for the new and improved guidelines.

For those that want to mention Low Impact Week on their blog, go on ahead! I'll be adding additional information to help people gauge if their actions made a difference and/or their reactions to how hard it was to make some changes.
