Blog Update!
For those of you not following me on Facebook, as of the Summer of 2019 I've moved to Central WA, to a tiny mountain town of less than 1,000 people.

I will be covering my exploits here in the Cascades, as I try to further reduce my impact on the environment. With the same attitude, just at a higher altitude!

Lovin' an elevator

Lovin' it up till I hit the groundWhat was I thinking? Climbing all those flights of stairs? With a 50 lb backpack?

In a nod to No Impact Man and his war on elevators, I actually started thinking about not taking the elevator when it's just me going to the top. So, I decided to take the stairs more often than I usually do.

Now, going down isn't a problem (although I do get a tad dizzy by the time I reach the bottom), it's going up that's a problem. So, I'll still have an illicit ride now and again.

Oh well. As long as I don't stroke out on my way up, it's probably better for me anyway. Yikes, that was a suggestive post!

So, how 'bout a poll?

sadly, at this point i would probably take the escalator if it was available. if the choice were between elevator and stairs, though, i'd totally take the stairs.

i've considered climbing part way up the 41 flights to my office level (i would totally "stroke out" if i tried to do all 41!), but i think the stairs are only for emergency use :/

I voted escalator. I'd walk up up instead to standing still, that way I'm still moving and maximizing my time. Plus, I'd probably have four kids with me and they would all want to ride the escalator.

Inspried by No Impact Man I try to walk up and down the stairs to my office. Down I do a lot, but as I'm on the 9th Floor I don't always have the energy to walk all the way up.

Can I justify? I mean, it's just that the escalator was already running...who am I to let that energy go to waste? I'm just sayin'....

I guess I live on a No Impact Island. No buildings more than three stories, no elevators or escalators, and no stop lights either. There really is very little to buy here and no fast food places. Yes NO MickieD, NO Pizza Hut, NO Wendy's, NO Dunkin' Donuts.
But we somehow still manage to make a LOT of garbage. All the stuff comes on our island, but nothing goes off.
When I go to the other big island, I take the stairs if it's under ten floors.

Forgot to say the illustration was a good example of what Greenpa is trying to get at. There is nothing more alienating than seriousness and ranting if you are trying to make converts.
Although sometime you'll have to feature some scantily clad guys in the illustrations with deeply carved abdominals, since this week we've had two dolls.
Did I mention I LOVED the illustration?

I used to walk up 9 flights of stairs when I used to work full-time.

anna banana - holy doodoo, 41 flights is a bit much. Sometimes I'll go up the elevator and get off a few flights early and climb the stairs the rest of the way (if there's stairwell access).

april - 4 kids = escalator

nichole - yes, I guess the escalator is already running but you're probably adding weight to the system which requires extra juice to operate. Unless you're Nichole Ritchie :)

rc - you're right. Since a lot of my readers are women I'll have to find something for the ladies... men in kilts?

I go up 12 floors everyday. Elevators really arent a problem, i just do it to focus before going to work.
